How Much Does It Cost to Sell on Etsy? (2026 Complete Breakdown)

Updated May 26, 2026

Etsy doesn’t charge a monthly fee to open a shop, but it takes a cut several different ways on each sale. Add them up and a typical sale costs you about 10–12% — more if Offsite Ads is involved. Here’s exactly where every cent goes.

The four standard fees

1. Listing fee — $0.20 per item You pay $0.20 to publish a listing. It stays active for four months or until the item sells, then auto-renews for another $0.20. If you sell two of the same item, the second sale triggers an automatic $0.20 renewal.

2. Transaction fee — 6.5% Etsy takes 6.5% of the total order — item price plus any shipping and gift wrap you charge. This is the core marketplace commission.

3. Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 (US) Etsy Payments charges 3% plus $0.25 per order in the US. The percentage and fixed fee vary by country (e.g., UK is 4% + £0.20).

4. Offsite Ads — 12% or 15% (conditional) If a buyer arrives via an Etsy-placed ad and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% (or 12% if you’ve done $10k+ in the last year). Sellers under $10k/year can opt out. Full Offsite Ads breakdown →

Worked example: a $30 sale

US seller, no separate shipping charged, no Offsite Ads:

FeeAmount
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$1.95
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.15
Total fees$3.30 (11.0%)
If item cost you $10You keep $16.70

How fees scale by price

Sale priceTotal feesEffective %
$10$1.4014.0%
$20$2.3511.8%
$30$3.3011.0%
$50$5.2010.4%
$100$9.9510.0%

The fixed $0.20 + $0.25 per-order portion hurts most on cheap items — which is why selling sub-$10 products on Etsy rarely leaves enough margin.

Costs that aren’t “fees” but still add up

The big picture vs other platforms

For most handmade and craft items at typical price points, Etsy’s ~10–12% total is cheaper than eBay (~14%) and cheaper than Amazon (15% referral + FBA). The tradeoff is audience: Etsy buyers expect handmade, vintage, and craft supplies. See the full marketplace comparison →
